Since When Did Journalism Die?

Forgive me for stepping off of the normal path in my articles, but something is irking me.

When did journalism die?  When did we stop caring about the facts of the world, and started looking for caricatures of news?

Take the news cycle for this weekend as an example.  Bay Area Rapid Transit blocked cell phone service in hopes that it would prevent protests of a police shooting that took place.  However, in a news cycle that had very little political news, the 24 hour news stations didn't cover much of anything involving the situation, or the new wave of protests that popped up from the block.

So instead of covering breaking news concerning the conflict between truth and  order (and I'm putting that as fair as possible to the two groups), the news covered non-news like the Iowa Straw Poll and whether this Republican Presidential Nominee can beat that Republican Presidential Nominee.  Sorry, Fox, CNN, and MSNBC, but nothing will change concerning the Presidential race for the next 6 months or so.  Please cover news.  I'm begging you.

Interesting Job Resume Tip

So I found out an interesting job resume tip today.  If you send your resume through, say, Monster, odds are that your resume will be scanned for "smart words," or keywords that the employer believes the perfect employee will put on his resume.  If you have your resume formatted in a nice way, the program will automatically consider you "worthless," and chuck your resume in the Recycle Bin.

However, if you type a bunch of keywords, make the text white, size 1, and put it at the bottom of the resume, the computer will notice the keywords and send your resume to the proper people.

These are the things that I hear about that discourage me while job hunting.  However, it's an interesting tidbit to know.

A little bit about me.

I recently earned a Communications Degree from a highly-loved school in the Pittsburgh Area.  As soon as I graduated, I realized I was NOT ready for the real world.  Fear swept through me; it's still there to this day.  However, I'm hoping that I can keep focused with a blog.  The dream isn't dead, I hope.  I'm just driving forward.

What else do I like?  I love sports.  I also love writing.  I think combining those two loves is why I'm such a fan of Pro Wrestling.  It is athletic, yet someone has to write those storylines.

Oh well.  I'll post more tomorrow, including things I've noticed about job searches that I'm pretty sure companies don't want you to know.

Trying to live the dream

So, the hope of this blog is to chronicle my attempts to find a job with a Communication Degree.  This blog is being created to keep myself motivated.  Furthermore, as a writer, this blog should keep me writing away, which is something I HAVE NOT BEEN doing properly.  We'll see how this goes.  Hopefully it doesn't fizzle like my other attempts at interesting blogs.
